Magick is forbidden in the Limska Draga valley. But that won’t stop sixteen-year-old Liara from pursuing her birthright. Orphaned by a magickal attack, and now outcast from the tiny village of Dvigrad for petty thievery, she dares to hope she’ll find the answers she craves in the company of the local wizard, Nagarath.

But the anticipated apprenticeship is denied her, the mage electing to train her not in the art of magick, but the keeping of books as a wizard’s librarian. The road to Liara’s future seems paved all in dusty old tomes, until an unexpected attack on the village she left behind sets the two exiles on a collision path with destiny.

With danger lurking in the valley, Nagarath realizes he’s kept the truth of Liara’s heritage from her too long – a powerful secret that could not only tear down the walls she has long placed around her heart, but awake the darkness gifted to her by an unknown father.
